What is Pilates?

Joseph Pilates was sick as a child and focused his life on physical fitness. He created a form of exercise using what is now referred to as the Reformer, the Cadillac, the Chair, and the Ladder Barrel. He initially used his training to rehabilitate soldiers. After moving to NYC, he and his technique was sought after by dancers, boxers, and acrobats. He continued his own training on the equipment well into his 80s.

I have no experience in Pilates. Is this an issue?

Not at all. We know the Pilates equipment can be intimidating, but like all things unfamiliar, you will come to learn with coaching and guidance from your Physical Therapist and Certified Pilates Instructor.

Are there different levels in Pilates?

Yes, there are exercises that are for certain levels of capability and control with Pilates. However, we focus on what’s right for your body and will modify and adjust all exercises as necessary.

Do I need a doctor’s referral?

Under Oklahoma Physical Therapy Practice Act, we can treat you for a 30-day period before we need a referral to continue care if needed. However, based on some insurance companies, they may have different rules for coverage. Please call us, and we can verify your insurance requirements. 918-619-9991

Can I come for Pilates training without an injury or need of physical therapy?

Yes, what is unique about our practice is that we have a dually Certified Pilates Instructor and Licensed Physical Therapist. You can get healthier and stay healthier with our expertise. You would not need a referral. This would be a Pilates only session. Payment would be self-pay for Pilates only training.

What do I wear?

Come in something that allows you to move easily. Also, please bring socks with you as well.

What if I’m not interested in Pilates, but want to be treated by your Physical Therapy team?

That is perfectly fine. We respect your request of recovery means within the parameters of your injury and healing phases. We can implement other modes of therapeutic exercise to target the desired results.
